Certified Master Teacher CMT®

Education Requirement

Admittance to take the CMT® exam requires the applicant to affirm having received a bachelor’s degree from either (1) an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in its accreditation data files, or (2) an institution of higher learning in another country that is recognized as U.S. equivalency by World Education Services, Inc.

Experience Requirement

Admittance to take the CMT® exam requires the applicant to affirm being able to document two years experience as an educator.

Code and Standards Requirement (Code)

Accreditor adopted the Code to establish the highest Principles and standards for educators and it includes instructions for use of the CMT® certification mark. Please find the Code at the footer of this website.

The Principles cited within the Code are general statements expressing ethical and professional ideals that Certificants (individuals holding the CMT® certification) and Applicants agree to and are expected to display in their professional activities.

Continuing Education Requirement

Certificants are required to maintain their credential by reporting qualifying continuing professional education (CPE) units by the end of their reporting period.  The reporting period runs on a three-year cycle that begins on the date one receives the certification. Accreditor allows for an exceptionally broad range of qualifying continuing education activities in order to allow Certificants the greatest possible flexibility. There is no requirement about how or whether to spend when earning CPEs.

By the conclusion of a reporting period, report a minimum of 120 qualifying CPE units performed during the 3-year reporting period. You will receive the CPE Reporting Form along with instructions for completing it and transmitting the completed form to Accreditor. You are not required to attach supporting documentation to the CPE Reporting Form unless Accreditor subsequently requests that you do so per its recordkeeping and audit procedures that may be updated from time to time. Each CPE unit represents a one-hour block of qualifying time for recording purposes.

The 3-year cycle CPE Reporting Form includes a certification maintenance fee. This fee, to be collected after 3 years and then in 3 year intervals, is $79 and provides for our administration of certification maintenance. Accreditor will then recertify and notify the certificant by email.

Applicant Fee

The one-time nonrefundable application fee is $329. This includes application processing and the CMT® exam preparation content. It does not include the fee for taking the exam at a testing center which is $89. If exam retake is necessary, the applicant would again pay the exam fee.
